Established in 1998 as a one person operation rescuing people mired in debt, Mesila has evolved into a social change organisation reducing poverty in the orthodox Jewish community.
Mesila is dedicated to empowering men, women and children in the community to seek, achieve and maintain economic self-sufficiency and stability. It does this by addressing the root causes of poverty in the community by shifting attitudes and fomenting social change.
This is carried out through financial coaching that equips struggling families with skills for achieving financial autonomy and through a range of meticulously developed materials to educate young people practical skills for economic self-sufficiency.
Mesila has been active in the UK since 2011, providing financial literacy courses in high schools and seminaries in London, Manchester and Gateshead all of which was managed from Israel. However, in the last 18 months has steps have been taken to put in place a fully functioning branch with services available to the kehilla in North West London, Stamford Hill, Manchester and Gateshead.
We work in partnership and shares resources with Mesila Israel who have assisted us to train more than 70 members of the kehilla to become family financial coaches.
